A 15-year-old girl is fighting for her life inside a Tennessee hospital after her brother accidentally shot her on Wednesday.
Police say that the teenager was playing with a gun around 1am and fired the weapon outside his family home on the 3400 block of Rose Creek Cove in Parkway Village.
The bullet went through the front door, hitting his younger sister in the mouth.
She was immediately taken to Methodist South hospital by her boyfriend and another sibling.
The brother, whose name and age were not released, was detained following the event.
According to a police report of the incident, the brother was shouting ‘I shot her, I shot her,’ when they arrived.
Police say the brother wanted to play with a pistol that belonged to girl’s boyfriend, and pulled the trigger not knowing the safety was off, according to CBS affiliate WREG.
The report states that the mother, who was sleeping when the incident transpired, immediately phoned 911 after her other daughter woke her up informing her of what happened.
‘You actually pulled the trigger and injured somebody, possibly could kill someone and who’s to say, you know, she could die years from now from her injuries,’ said Dekisha Norwood, a neighbor who lives on the 3400 block of Rose Creek Cove.
