Chroma Air Art Studio will host an advanced hands-on airbrush techniques class taught by Gerald Mendez on September 27-29 at their studio in Oldsmar, Florida.
Mexican-born artist Gerald Mendez is a world-famous airbrush illustrator who has perfected a unique style between airbrushing and digital illustration art. He has produced numerous designs for such clients as Disney, DreamWorks, Harley Davidson and Wacom to name a few. Mendez is the designer of the popular “Texture FX” stencil series among other templates he has created for the airbrush industry.
In this 3-day workshop, Mendez will share different techniques, special effects and secrets he has learned in over 25 years of professional experience as an airbrush artist. Topics taught and demonstrated will include:
1) Illustration of Detail and Accuracy: Learn technique details and proper use of the airbrush to apply the right combination of factors in airbrushing such as air pressure, distance and control of the airbrush.
2) Freehand Fundamental Strokes: Learn how to accurately control spray volume (light and shadow) and create gradient effects. Students will paint a miniature monochrome illustration with no margin for error, which will result in a composition of full-size piece of fantasy art on aluminum board. This illustration will be painted with airbrushing techniques completely freehand and using stencils.
3) Texture-FX Tips & Tricks: Explore different airbrush techniques, use different kinds of masks and apply different textures, tricks and special effects, with the use of several templates including Texture FX and Texture FX-2.
4) Fantasy Art Illustration: Learn different alternatives in developing a concept for a Fantasy Illustration considering key aspects of originality and personal style while implementing airbrushing techniques learned during the workshop
