Father murders four children, wife left fighting for life in tragic domestic violence attack

A man has been arrested after killing two of his children, two stepchildren and critically injuring his wife in an attack at their home in suburban Detroit, police said.

Officers responded early Wednesday to a Dearborn Heights home after a man called police around 1.20am, saying he had just killed his family, WXYZ-TV reported.

Police found the man, identified by local media as Gregory V Green, waiting on the front porch when they arrived and he was taken into custody.

They also found a horrific scene with victims attacked in different ways.

Green’s 17-year-old stepdaughter Kara Allen and 19-year-old stepson Chadney J Allen were found dead and bound in the basement after being shot execution style, ClickOnDetroit reported.

His daughters four-year-old Kaleigh Green and six-year-old Koi Green were found dead in their beds after they were asphyxiated by carbon monoxide fumes in a car, police said.

Their father had reportedly manipulated the tail pipe of the car, killing the children with exhaust fumes.

He then placed the young children back into bed on the ground floor of the home, police said.

Police administered CPR before they were taken to hospital, but did not survive, according to Dearborn Heights police Lt. Michael Krause.

His wife, identified as Faith Green whose age was not released by police, was found shot and stabbed in the basement, The Detroit News reported.

She was taken to Oakwood Hospital where she is listed in critical condition, and is expected to survive her injuries.

The two older children are reportedly Faith Green’s children from a previous relationship while the two younger children she had with Gregory Green.

Police have not cited a motive but the killings appear to have stemmed ‘from a domestic violence-type situation,’ Dearborn Heights police Capt. Michael Petri said.

Records show Faith Green had filed for divorce in August.

She cited a ‘breakdown in the marriage relationship’ in the filing in Wayne County court.

The suspect's wife, identified as Faith Green (pictured),  was found shot and slashed in the basement with her two older childrenRecords show she also filed for divorce from Gregory Green, 49, in 2013 but no further action was taken.

She had asked for a personal protection order that same year but it was turned down by a judge.

Her divorce lawyer, Harvey Beck, spoke briefly with the AP, calling the deaths ‘a terrible situation,’ but declining further comment.

In the past, police have reportedly responded to the home for domestic violence and family troubles.

The father was also reported to have a criminal record, pleading no contest to second-degree murder in 1992, according to ClickOnDetroit.

He was released from parole in April 2010 after spending 16 years in prison.

Mayor Dan Paletko, speaking near the home, called the killings ‘a tragedy in every sense of the word.’

Neighbors described the family as quiet and hardworking.

‘Just two or three weeks ago, they had a birthday party — balloons and all that stuff out there,’ Ronnie Jones told WXYZ-TV.

‘They’ve been working on the house the last two or three months.’

Police at the Dearborn Heights station said no one was available to offer updated information early Wednesday, but that a news conference was likely.

The Associated Press sent emails seeking information from local and state police, who were assisting on the scene.

An investigation is ongoing and police said the suspect will face charges in the coming days.
