A white supremacist refused to look at relatives of his murdered victim as he was executed for the fatal truck-dragging of James Byrd Jr. along Texas back roads in 1998.

John William King, 44, closed his eyes to Byrd’s sisters Clara Taylor and Louvon Harris, and niece Tiffany Taylor, as they arrived to watch his lethal injection in Huntsville, Texas on Wednesday.

Clara Taylor called King’s death ‘peaceful and dignified unlike the savage, brutal, inhumane murder of James.’
