It’s time to do something!

BY REV. DORAL PULLEY

“For the Father loves the Son and shows him all things that he himself does: and he will show him greater works than these that you may marvel.”  – John 5:20

Jesus Christ was just like the Father. He also spoke many things into existence. He spoke to the winds and the waves and they obeyed his voice (Matthew 8:26-27).  Nevertheless, Jesus Christ was not just a man of words; Jesus Christ was also a man of action whenever action was necessary.

When Jesus Christ came to the temple and saw how the people were abusing the Father’s house and misusing the people of God, he was moved to action. Not only did he speak words to instruct them that the purpose of the house of God was to be a house of prayer for all people, Jesus Christ also put the moneychangers out of the temple. He realized that mere words were not enough for the thieves who were selling defective animal sacrifices and overcharging the people. He was keenly aware that they needed to be physically removed from the temple.

What action steps do you need to take? What do you need to physically remove from your temple? What ways of thinking and speaking need to be extracted from your consciousness? What are you being called to do to help others? How can speak up for others who are having a challenge with speaking up for themselves? How can you speak out against injustice and ensure right actions in various systems?

We must walk in Jesus Christ’s footsteps. We can’t just sit and watch injustice, discrimination, abuse, neglect, violence and crime as if it were a television show. We are held accountable for what we know and what we see. We must do something about it. If we follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, God will let us know when to speak and when to take action.
