A man wrongly convicted of murdering his married lover two decades ago has now been exonerated after DNA linked the woman’s husband and nephew to the case.

Horace Roberts, 60, walked free from the Avenal State Prison in California where he has been held since 1999 after being declared innocent of the murder earlier this month.

He had been wrongly accused of strangling his lover and co-worker Terry Cheek to death and dumping her body by a lake near the Interstate 15 in Riverside County in 1998.
