Julian Jones, from Maryland, was punched and kicked in the head after being confronted by a group of nine men outside a Toronto bar in an ‘unprovoked’ attack.

Family and friends have paid tribute to the ‘loving’ church volunteer who died in hospital after the attack outside Blnd Tger nightclub at 2.30am on Saturday.

He was due to tie the knot with his fiancée, Shenel Darden, in Niagara Falls next April – but he was in Toronto for a friend’s bachelor party.

His father, Tobias, told the Toronto Sun: ‘He was loving and caring and had faith in mankind. He believed he could change something.’

School friend Emily Dawn wrote on Facebook, saying: ‘There are no words to how heart broken I am for you and your family.

‘Julian Jones you were such an amazing person I remember back in high school you always made me smile and laugh. you were such a sweetheart.

‘You were taken from us far too soon I am so angry at the world for this…. you deserve justice!!’

Police said that on the night of the attack, Jones became separated by his friends and was confronted by a group of men, who egged him on to fight.

He refused to engage and was attacked by two suspects who punched him and kicked him while he was down before stomping on his head.

‘The attack on Mr Jones was and still is unprovoked,’ Detective Rob North of the Toronto Police Service said.

‘Based on the witnesses we spoke to, Mr Jones did absolutely nothing wrong.

‘My understanding from speaking to his family is that he was a hardworking young man who came to this city to celebrate what was supposed to be a happy event.

‘Unfortunately, because of the actions of a few residents of this city, he doesn’t have that opportunity.’

The suspects fled the scene. Police are looking for two men in connection to the death.

One suspect is described as a white male, 26 to 27 years old with a slim build, in a black shirt and black pants.

The second is described as a black male, 26 to 27 years old, with a full beard, large, ‘built like a football player,’ also in a black shirt and black pants.

Police have asked anyone who was at the bar on November 5 to contact them.

They also appealed for anyone who may have filmed or photographed the incident to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400 or Crimestoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
