PCUL changes policy for scheduling LIHEAP appointments

ST. PETERSBURG — The Pinellas County Urban League’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) now sets appointments for assistance with energy bills throughout the month.

In previous times families seeking assistance would have to call on the first business day of the month to receive an appointment. During that time, appointments were set for the entire month, while spaces were reserved for emergency appointments.

Now, all families and persons seeking assistance for their electric or gas bills can call throughout the month to receive an appointment. On the first business day of the month, they can call and have an appointment set by a live representative. At all other times, persons can call to leave a message and someone will return their call in the order that it is received, as funds are available.

Those seeking assistance should keep in mind that LIHEAP serves all of Pinellas County from Pinellas Point to Tarpon Springs and there may be a high volume of calls. This is not a guaranteed service.

Those needing assistance with their electric or gas bill can call LIHEAP at 727-327-0977 leaving their name, number and a brief message and someone will return the call, as funds are available.

Founded in 1977, the Pinellas County Urban League is the premier social service and civil rights organization in Pinellas County, Florida and is one of the National Urban League’s network of 94 non-profit, community-based located in the United States.
