Teenage boys arrested for murder of track star, shot in the back of the head during break-in

Two teenagers aged 15 and 16 have been arrested for the murder of a star athlete who was shot in the back of the head as he allegedly confronted them when they tried to break into his home.

Taron Small, 16, and Byron Vinson, 15, are accused of murdering Kristian Marche, an 18-year-old track star, on August 13.

Police say the two younger boys were trying to break into Marche’s home in Philadelphia and he confronted them.

He was inside and heard a noise coming from the back of the property then looked outside to see the boys jumping from the second floor balcony, according to police.

After confronting the two younger boys, who he is said to have known, Marche began walking back inside with them behind him.

That is when Small allegedly shot him in the back of the head.

The two boys fled the scene. They were arrested on Wednesday within hours of each other. It is not clear what led police to them.

Marche was due to begin classes at Penn State in the fall. He had been accepted on a partial scholarship and was a gifted runner.
