Police in Washington state have apologized for helping the owner of a frozen yogurt shop kick out a black man because employees said they felt uncomfortable.
Ramon Cruz, the owner of Menchie’s, a frozen-yogurt franchise located in Kirkland, called police on Byron Ragland, 31, on November 7, according to a police report.
Ragland, who works as a court-appointed special advocate, was supervising a court-sanctioned outing between a mother and her 12-year-old son who wanted ice cream at the time. The mother and child are both white.
Officers from the Kirkland Police Department responded and told him that the owner wanted him to leave. Ragland left without incident.
