Knowing your credit score is basically the definition of adulting. Because that mysterious number literally holds the keys to you being a grown-ass woman who owns her own home, or gets a small-business loan.

Yep, your credit score—which measures how likely you are to repay debt—can open some major doors. It’s generated based on your credit reports from the three major bureaus—Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian—and is used by banks and lenders to decide if you get approved for a loan.
