Baltomore Ravens’ Tray Walker dies from injuries sustained from dirt bike accident

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tray Walker died on Friday of critical injuries suffered in a dirt bike accident near Miami, his agent said.

According to the Miami-Dade police department, Walker, 23, was riding a dirt bike when he collided with a Ford Escape sport utility vehicle on Thursday around 7.50pm.

Walker, who grew up in Miami, appeared in eight games for the Ravens, mostly on special teams, during his rookie campaign last season.

His agent, Ron Butler, said Walker was surrounded by friends and family when he was pulled off of life support around 5pm Friday at the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

Butler said Walker suffered serious head injuries in the collision and never showed any brain activity after arriving at the hospital.

‘I just wanted to say that Tray was an incredible young man and had a very promising career ahead of him,’ Butler told Reuters. ‘He will be missed.’

Police said the driver of the SUV stayed on the scene after the collision and was cooperating with authorities. Police said no charges had been filed.

The Ravens star was not wearing a helmet and was dressed in all black at the time of the accident, police said.

He was believed to be riding the dirt bike with another NFL player, but his agent does not know the name of the that player.

The station WBAL reported that Miami-Dade police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision, and Walker was not racing.

Walker’s sister, Shalonda Martin, told the station WJZ the vehicle ran a stop sign right before the collision with Tray.

Walker was a fourth-round draft pick out of Texas Southern University in 2015 and registered two tackles in his rookie season.

Walker said in an interview with ESPN that he was upset with his lack of playing time during his rookie season, but was using it to keep motivated for this upcoming season.

‘I’ll just use that as an edge for me,’ he said.

‘I’ll learn from this season and hope that I can come back strong next year and get on the field and make the plays they want me to make.’

A wave of condolences flooded onto social media from his teammates and friends as news of his death spread.

‘God called u home… God bless ya soul and it was a blessing to experience ya beautiful heart homie,’ his teammate Jeremy Butler tweeted.

Ravens’ wide receiver Breshad Perriman tweeted: ‘RIP my right hand man tray walker!! Still feel unreal dawg (sic) but I know he’s in a better place. Love is love bruh!!! #restuptwofive #fam4L’.

Chris Long with the New England Patriots wrote on Twitter: ‘Rest in Peace Tray Walker. Life is precious. That’s heartbreaking.’

Le’Veon Bell with the Pittsburgh Steelers also tweeted a message about Walker’s tragic death and wrote: ‘Condolences goes to Tray Walker family…so young, keep his family in your prayers…it’s bigger than the game! #RIPTrayWalker’.

The Ravens tweeted a photo of Walker and wrote: ‘We are grieving the loss of a special young man. #RIPTrayWalker’.

The NFL player had dedicated his rookie season to his father, who died in 2014 of a heart attack.

The family spread his father’s ashes off the coast of Miami one day after Walker was drafted, which was also his father’s birthday.
