Chip Kelly was not ready to commit to Colin Kaepernick as the 49ers’ starting quarterback following a 45-16 thrashing at the hands of the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. But a day later, the Niners coach did say Kaepernick will start again for the team.

Kelly told the media Monday that Kaepernick will be San Francisco’s starting quarterback against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7.

The Niners are 1-5, which puts them last in the NFC West. They finally made Kaepernick their starter for Week 6 after he agreed to a renegotiated contract. Blaine Gabbert had been their starter through the first five games of the season, but he had thrown six interceptions and was getting progressively worse.

If Kaepernick does not show improvement in Week 7 from his performance against the Bills, you have to figure the Niners might use their bye week during Week 8 to reevaluate the position. Kaepernick was 13 of 29 for 187 yards and a touchdown, and he rushed for 66 yards in the loss.
