Denver Broncos Antonio Smith being investigated for child abuse in Texas

Denver Broncos player Antonio Smith is being investigated for child sex abuse in Texas, according to reports.

Complaints dating back to 2010 have been filed against the 33-year-old defensive end, TMZ reported.

According to Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls, a police report was filed for review in February 2015, two months before Smith signed with the Broncos.

No charges have been filed as detectives and the Denver Broncos investigate the allegations, which were made in November 2014.

The Broncos said in a statement on Thursday: ‘Last night, we became aware for the first time of an allegation involving Antonio Smith. We are now in the process of gathering more information.’

Sheriff told TMZ the allegations are sexual in nature.

District Attorney John Healey Jr told 9News: ‘Our Sheriff’s Office has received some information, they’re working with our office to try and find out as much information as we can about the allegation.

‘At this particular point anything in reference to Mr Smith is just that – an allegation.’

Smith has been a fixture of the NFL for 11 years.

Starting his career with Oklahoma City in his home state, he was drafted in 2004 by the Arizona Cardinals, where he played five seasons.

In 2009, he moved to the Houston Texans, and in 2013 he played one season with the Oakland Riders before signing with the Denver Broncos.
