Fashionista wanted for series of attacks on Asian women found dead in elevator shaft
A fashionista suspected of carrying out a string of attacks on Asian women in Manhattan in New York City was found hanging in the elevator shaft of a building after neighbors noticed the smell.
Tyrell Shaw, 25, was found dead in a Madison Avenue building on the Upper East Side on Monday afternoon, according to police sources.
On his blog, where he posted photos of bow-ties he designed and put up a number of selfies with celebrates, Shaw seemed to provide information about the assaults and foreshadow his death.
Shaw was suspected of carrying out at least four attacks on Asian women where he would start up a conversation with them and then walk away before coming back and getting physical.
At the end of the attacks, which began on June 10, police believe Shaw would hit the women in the head with a hard object encased in a plastic bag, the New York Daily News reported.
The attacks, which were being investigated as bias crimes, were carried out against Asian women aged 41, 35, 34, and 29, according to NBC 4 New York.
One of the victims said Shaw complained he couldn’t get phone numbers and said ‘All Asian girls doesn’t talk to me’, before he hit her in the face.
Workers at the building where Shaw was found said they thought he was squatting there for months and that there had been a stink in the air for the past few days.
Karen Bennett said: ‘The smell was horrific.
‘I hate to say this, but we said it smelled like someone died.’
Shaw had been arrested double digit times for crimes including theft, criminal trespassing and burglary and was described as a ‘lovesick fashionista’ by the Daily Beast,
He went by his given name as well as Ty, TD Shaw, Goofball, and Mr Talented and had a blog, ‘MR. TALENTED’, which may partially explain his behavior.
On the site, at the top of which he claimed to have ‘launched a start-up, wrote a book, obtained celebrity contacts’, Shaw wrote a post called ‘Why I Decided to Leave Earth.’
He wrote: ‘I never wanted to reach the conclusion that Asian Women would never take me serious, because of the color of my skin.
‘In less than 350 days, I talked to nearly 1,500 Asian Women and none of them took time out of their day to say hello.
‘I became furious. I never agreed with violence, but I knew the only way I could overcome that sense of rejection-would start by assaulting the Women that carelessly rejected me.
He continued: ‘Inform NYPD they could stop searching for me because I’m going to commit suicide.
‘Actually, I’ve already tied a noose to the bottom of an elevator and I’m going to wait until someone pushes a button so that it’s not considered a practical suicide.
‘This is actually murder. Thank you. I love you.’
He also wrote that there are more scheduled posts coming on the blog.
