I AM Fire

Scripture – “Our God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29).”
Denial – “Nothing can put out my fire.”
Affirmation – “I AM on fire for God.”

When God identified himself to Moses as the I AM that I AM, God used a burning bush to get Moses’s attention.  We all have burning bush experiences to get our attention about who God is and what it is that God is calling us to do.  Moses noticed that the bush was not fire but that it was not being consumed. His experience is God is fire that does not consume.

The writer of Hebrews describes God as a consuming fire. His or her experience was that God is fire that consumes. Which is correct? Both are right. God is a consuming fire that burns-up thoughts, words and actions that do not lead us to our highest good. God is also a non-consuming fire because He does not destroy us but sets us ablaze with zeal as his vessels in the earth.
