Mike Vick hoping for one more season in Pittsburgh

Steelers quarterback Mike Vick is hopeful to play one more season in Pittsburgh, even if it means serving as the third-string quarterback.

Vick is now third on the depth chart behind Landry Jones despite going 2-1 while starting for the injured Ben Roethlisberger earlier in the season. Vick signed a one-year contract in August after original backup Bruce Gradkowski was placed on injured reserve. At 35 years old, Vick would relish another chance in Pittsburgh with a full offseason under his belt.

“Absolutely, I’d definitely come back here,” Vick said per Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Great people, great staff, great teammates. That’s what I fell in love with, my teammates, a bunch of great guys.”

While Vick believes he would benefit from having a full offseason and training camp in the system, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to overtake Jones on the depth chart. Whether he is second or third on the depth chart, Vick just yearns for the chance to compete.

“Absolutely. That’s what this game is all about, it’s all about competition, it’s all about seeing how far you’re willing to go to make yourself a success or find success,” Vick said. “Whatever it takes to help this football team.”
