‘My mother is bleedy’: Blood-splattered toddler found wandering Baltimore streets
A toddler wearing blood-spattered clothes who was found wandering the streets of Baltimore County alone at night has led police to the discovery of her mother’s dead body.
Jaycia Jackson, three, could barely talk when she was spotted in a CVS parking lot by a security worker, Frank Myers, at around 10.30pm on Sunday.
When Mr Myers asked where her parents were, Jaycia, who was not injured, replied ‘Well, I want to go see the fishies and my mother is bleedy,’ according to WJZ.
He and a co-worker immediately contacted the authorities.
By Monday morning, police had established the identify of the little girl, which in turn led them to her home address, off Hollins Ferry Road in Lansdowne.
It was there that they discovered the body of the child’s mother, Brittany Jackson, at 2917 Freeway, in an upstairs bathroom.
She too was covered in blood, according to Cpl John Wachter, a county police spokesman.
He said: ‘At this point, we can’t say for certainty where the blood came from.’
Police have not confirmed Ms Jackson’s age but she is believed to be in her thirties.
Baltimore County Police Department’s homicide team is investigating the incident but said there were no obvious signs of foul play.
They said that an autopsy would be carried out.
A neighbour told the Baltimore Sun that the mother and daughter were inseparable, saying ‘she was a loving mom, a caring mom’.
Jaycia is currently in the custody of social services, police said.
They added that they are trying to get in touch with other family members.
