Outrage: Lowe’s delivery driver replaced; customer requested white man to drop of her orders

A black delivery driver was told by his manager that he would not be making a delivery because the customer had said she only wanted a white driver in her house.

Black Lowes Driver, btbMarcus Bradley, an African American, who has worked for Lowe’s Home Improvement for the last 11 years, was left devastated after his manager complied with the customer’s outrageous wish.

The shocking incident reportedly happened in the city of Danville, situated in the US state of Virginia.

Mr Bradley was already on the way to the order when he received a call from his manager. Before he had reached his intended destination, his manager told him to change driver.

Confused by the order, Mr Bradley asked his manager what the problem was with the delivery.

‘I asked him why I couldn’t do it and he said because you’re black and they don’t want you at the house,’ Mr Bradley said.

Despite the appalling manner in which he was treated, Mr Bradley said he will continue to work for Lowe’s Home Improvement.

He said: ‘I mean I gotta work…I’m going to keep going to work like I’ve always done. But I would think Lowe’s would take it into consideration to think about what they’re doing next time.’

A TV reporter tracked down the customer in question, knocking on her door and asking her side of the story.

When asked whether it was true that she had made the outrageous request, the woman said: ‘I got a right to have whatever I want and that’s it.’

The woman was also asked how she felt about her treatment of the delivery driver and asked whether she ‘felt bad’ about the incident.

However, the customer remained unconcerned by her action, sternly insisting: ‘No, I don’t feel bad about nothing.’

Since the incident took place, Lowe’s have issued a statement about the manager’s decision.

It read: ‘Under no circumstances should a discriminatory delivery request be honored as it is inconsistent with our diversity and inclusion core values and the request should have been refused.’

The company confirmed that a full investigation had been carried out to determine what happened.

It also confirmed that the manager, who told Mr Bradley that he would be swapped for a white delivery driver for the customer’s order, is no longer working with the company.
