Disgraced former Ravens running back Ray Rice has spoken publicly for the first time since he was fired on Monday in the wake the release of an explosive video showing him beat his now wife Janay unconscious.
Rice, who not only got cut by his team yesterday but was also suspended from the entire NFL told ESPN that he was being ‘strong’ for his wife and that the couple were in ‘good spirits.’
‘I have to be strong for my wife,’ said Rice. ‘[Janay] is so strong. We are in good spirits.’
‘We have a lot of people praying for us and we’ll continue to support each other. I have to be there for [Janay] and my family right now and work through this.’
After Rice spoke, he handed the phone to his wife Janay, who said: ‘I love my husband. I support him. I want people to respect our privacy in this family matter.’
Rice also texted CNN and said: ‘I’m just holding strong for my wife and kid that’s all I can do right now.’
Earlier on Tuesday Janay, 26, had posted a statement on her (now-private) Instagram account on Tuesday morning in which she professed her love for her husband and then condemned the media for their coverage of the whole incident which she called a ‘horrible nightmare’.
I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I’m mourning the death of my closest friend. But to have to accept the fact that it’s reality is a nightmare in itself.
No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family.
To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret every day is a horrible thing.
To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass of for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific.
THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don’t you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you’ve succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!
