Report: Chancellor officially holding out of training camp

The Seattle Seahawks, who have a few contract issues to deal with in the not-so-distant future, didn’t really need this. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pro Bowl safety Kam Chancellor was a no-show to the team’s training camp facility on Thursday and will not report without a new contract.

Chancellor, a three-time Pro Bowl performer, signed a four-year, $28 million extension with Seattle back in April of 2013. This makes him the eighth highest-paid safety in the NFL in terms of average salary. Though, only 27 percent of his contract was guaranteed at signing.

This past season saw Chancellor put up 100-plus tackles with one interception and a forced fumble. In addition to this, the strong safety allowed a 69 percent completion rate and just one touchdown when targeted.

Now that Seattle has to worry about both Chancellor and Russell Wilson, who has set a Friday deadline to sign an extension with the team, it appears general manager John Schneider and company have their work cut out for them. This doesn’t even take into account star linebacker’s Bobby Wagner’s high contract demands and rumblings from Michael Bennett that he wants a new deal.

The good news here for Seattle is that Chancellor is the only player of the four that didn’t show up to camp on Thursday.
