Two charged with murder of Indianapolis pastor’s pregnant wife

The two men charged in the shooting death of an Indianapolis pastor’s pregnant wife said little Tuesday when they faced a judge for the first time since their arrest.

A Marion County judge entered not guilty pleas for 18-year-old Larry Taylor Jr. and 21-year-old Jalen Watson during a brief court hearing.

They quietly answered the judge’s questions about whether they understood the charges, but didn’t say anything about the accusations that they broke into the home of 28-year-old Amanda Blackburn shortly after her husband, Pastor Davey Blackburn, left for the gym about 6 a.m. November 10.

The pair gave short ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answers, except when the judge asked about a speedy trial. ‘I don’t want that,’ Watson said.

Taylor and Watson, both of Indianapolis, were charged Monday with her murder and a string of other crimes.

Taylor faces a total of 13 charges, including three for murder, three related to burglary (with serious bodily injury), theft, criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon and auto theft.

Watson was already in custody because of a parole violation in an unrelated case. He was charged Monday for Blackburn’s murder. Ten counts were filed against him, including two charges of murder, one count of burglary with serious bodily injury, one count of robbery with serious bodily injury, two counts of burglary of a dwelling, three counts of theft and one count of car theft.

Prosecutors are waiting to see if they will charge, Dano Gordon, 24, who is in custody on a parole violation, in connection with the murder.

A probable cause affidavit says that Taylor shot Amanda Blackburn three times, including once in the back of the head.
