Two children drowned by Texas mother, bodies then buried under neighbor’s house

Sheborah Thomas has been charged with capital murder in the deaths of her two childrenTwo children were found dead under a neighbor’s house Sunday after their mother allegedly told a friend helping her move that she had drowned them in a bathtub.

Sheborah Thomas, 30, was charged with capital murder and ‘all indications are she is the one who acted alone’ in the deaths of her seven-year-old son RayRay and five-year-old daughter, Kayana, Houston Police spokesman Kese Smith said.

The woman allegedly said she drowned the children Friday but authorities have not yet confirmed a cause of death.

Smith said investigators were still interviewing her and had not determined a motive.

She was turned into police by a male friend who came upon her throwing away trash in a field, where she allegedly told him she needed help moving right away.

As he helped her pack he asked where her children were. ‘I killed them,’ she told him.

Smith told KPRC at first she ‘was so matter of fact about it he didn’t think she was serious. He thought she was joking’.

Smith said the man eventually realized something was wrong when he asked again and got the same answer.

He then drove the woman toward a nearby police precinct and flagged down an officer, Smith said.

The mother apparently tried burying the children at first but put them under a neighbor’s house when that proved too difficult, Smith said.

Authorities were not immediately aware of the woman having any history of mental health problems, Smith said.

He said police had been to the home before but for ‘nothing major.’

Authorities say Child Protective Services had also visited the home in the past, but they would not elaborate why.

According to KTRK, the woman has a 12-year-old son who was not at the home at the time of the incident. The son is safe and staying with his father.

Police say she has a minor criminal record, but couldn’t go into detail, citing privacy laws.

Neighbors in the area are shocked by the news, and say that the mother was always friendly and seemed happy.

‘I never would have thought she would do that. She didn’t seem like the type. She was always with a smile and friendly,’ neighbor Dee Davis told the Houston Chronicle.

‘How in the h*** can she do something like this? You bring life into the world, it’s not up to you to take it out. I can’t get over this.’

Davis said she had seen the mother around the neighborhood and her children coming home from school on occasion.

Neighbors gathered at the scene of the murders were visibly upset by the deaths of the two children

On Saturday she said she saw the woman walking around the area.

In 2001, Houston mother Andrea Yates drowned her five children ranging in age from 7 years to 6 months in the bathtub of her family’s home.

She was eventually found not guilty by reason of insanity in July 2006 and sent to a state mental hospital.
