Young boy, 8, critically injured in drive-by shooting celebrates birthday in a hospital bed

A young boy was was critically injured after being struck by two bullets during a drive by last month is slowly beginning to recover.

Kumar Polk was just 7-years-old when he was shot in the abdomen and hand on April 22 as he played outside near his home in Vallejo, California.

The bullet that hit his abdomen caused spinal cord injuries however, and now he may never walk again.

‘It’s hard because he had such a promising future, not just with sports, but with anything in life,’ Kumar’s uncle U-Gene Jackson told Fox 2.

‘He has sensation in his right thigh and left foot. It’s sensation, but no movement.’
The person responsible for shooting Kumar, who at the time was near a crowd that had gathered to mourn the death of a man who had died in his sleep, is still at large.

Jackson said that one thing helping Kumar these days in the playoff run being made by his favorite basketball team, the Golden State Warriors.

He was also joined by his entire family on Friday in the hospital to celebrate his birthday.

Kumar has told his family he only has one wish – to go outside and play again.

They have now started a GoFundMe page to help pay for Kumar’s medical bills.
