IBD advocate Stephanie A. Wynn leads education efforts during Digestive Disease Awareness Month
Tampa Bay, FL – Following the successful release of her book Navigating Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Six-Week Blueprint for Better Gut Health, Stephanie A. Wynn continues her mission to address racial disparities in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) diagnosis and treatment during Digestive Disease Awareness Month.
As both a Crohn’s warrior and Certified Patient Leader, Wynn has expanded her advocacy efforts throughout the Tampa Bay area with a focus on underserved African Americans and other marginalized communities who often face delayed diagnosis and treatment. Through her innovative Navigating IBD Lunch & Learn Series, Let’s IBD Health & Wellness Symposium and Community Events, she’s reaching those most affected by healthcare gaps.
“The journey to proper diagnosis was unnecessarily long and painful for me, as it is for many people of color,” says Wynn. “When you’re diagnosed with diseases like cancer, you’re given an entire healthcare navigation team. With Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis which are two forms of IBD, especially in African American communities, patients are often left to figure things out alone. My work aims to change that reality.”
Since the book’s March release, Wynn has strengthened partnerships with local healthcare institutions to address disparities in IBD care. Her blueprint provides practical tools for those newly diagnosed as well as those who have been battling the disease for years.
“Managing IBD isn’t just about medication it’s about regaining control over your day-to-day life,” Wynn explains. “Small, consistent actions can make a tremendous difference in quality of life, which is why I’ve created a structured six-week approach that anyone can follow.”
Wynn is hosting additional community events aimed at raising awareness about:
- How racial disparities delay Inflammatory Bowel Disease diagnosis and treatment
- Warning signs that are often dismissed in communities of color
- Practical strategies for self-advocacy in medical settings
- Resources available through The Stephanie A. Wynn Foundation.
Approximately 3 million Americans live with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, African American patients often experience more severe symptoms before diagnosis. Wynn’s foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, provides targeted resources to marginalized communities living with IBD.
Stephanie’s message is clear: IBD may shape our lives, but it doesn’t have to define us! Navigating Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): A Six-Week Blueprint for Better Gut Health is not just a guide for managing symptoms, it’s a testament to the power of resilience, hope, and community. With this book, Stephanie aims to spark a movement towards better gut health, stronger patient advocacy, and a future where no one navigates IBD alone.
Whether you are newly diagnosed, a caregiver, or someone who has lived with IBD for years, this book is for you. As a fellow patient advocate and leader, I’m so proud of Stephanie for going after her dreams and making this latest resource a reality for our community. Together, we can turn pain into purpose and ensure that no one fights this battle in silence.
