Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. seeking young men for biennial Beautillion Militaire

ST. PETERSBURG – Members of the St. Petersburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. are currently recruiting new beaux for the 2018 Beautillion Militaire Experience.

The program is designed to provide young males with tools to transition successfully from high school to post-secondary education and into young adulthood. This awesome experience for high school juniors and seniors promotes education, personal development, leadership and social responsibility.

The goal of the Beautillion Militaire is to recognize and encourage young men, called “beaux” to obtain higher levels of personal achievement, self-confidence, pride and cultural awareness. The beaux attend workshops, participate in rites of passage ceremonies, team-building, social outings, perform community service and are taught dining and social etiquette.

During the program, they also practice for their military precision drill to be performed at the culminating event, the Beautillion Scholarship Gala. The drill itself is a lesson in discipline and is taught by local drillmasters. With the precise marching, the beaux will learn teamwork, attention to detail, obedience and discover how their decisions affect others.

In this six-month program, the beaux are mentored during monthly meetings hosted by inspiring and successful men from local fraternities and civic organizations. These groups provide a viable source of dedicated men who provide wise advice and counsel to the young men during the monthly meetings.

On April 29 of next year, the beaux will be presented to society at the second biennial Beautillion Militaire Scholarship Gala. The event will include dinner and entertainment by the beaux, including the military-style drill. The community is encouraged to support these young men with sponsorships and other donations as well as attendance at the formal Scholarship Gala.

Those interested in participating in the Beautillion Militaire are encouraged to attend an information meeting. An information session will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Petersburg College Allstate Campus, 3200 34th St. S.

The Beautillion Militaire is a fundraiser for the St. Petersburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. All proceeds benefit scholarships and vital community programs.
