Ellinois Stokes: Faithful servant of Jehovah dies

Ellinois “Ella Mae” Stokes passed away Fri., Feb. 27 at Reston Hospital in Reston, Va.

Born October 22, 1928, in Millen, Ga., to the late Bessie Moore, she was employed as a housekeeper and later became a Certified Nursing Assistant. Ellinois was a very talented seamstress who taught sewing to the Laurel Park Community.

She was also known to many in the community as the “mom” who drove the kids from the Laurel Park Community to school daily.

Ellinois was a former member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and later became a Jehovah’s Witness.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Stokes and brother, Arthur Lee Robinson.

Those left to cherish her precious memories: Sons: Gerald (Genie Boy) Pitts, Reginald (Shenita) Smith, and Jeffrey Thomas; daughter: Arlear Kirkland; grandchildren: Devon, Tiffany, Asha, Reginald Jr., and Saphire and Goddaughter, Deborah Williams.

Ellinois’ funeral was held at the Edward McRae Memorial Chapel, 1940 Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. St. S., St. Petersburg, on March 21, and repast at the Frank H. Pierce Recreation Center. Reverend Michael Hawkins gave her eulogy.
