PINELLAS COUNTY — St. Petersburg College is partnering with Black Dog Venture Partners to host the St. Petersburg VC Fast Pitch event, which allows entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their company and ideas to venture capitalists and accredited investors from all over the country. It’s a great opportunity for investors looking for a great business venture, as well as startups looking for backing.

“We are excited to be partnering with St. Petersburg College and offering their student entrepreneurs the opportunity to participate,” said Scott Kelly, founder and CEO of Black Dog Venture Partners. “We look forward to seeing what the next generation of entrepreneurs has to offer our investor panelists.”

The event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 9-5 p.m. at SPC’s St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus, at 6605 Fifth Ave. N in St. Petersburg.

After opening remarks from Kelly, the pitch times begin, with a range of times offered:

  • Five-minute company presentations, followed by five minutes of questions from investor panel
  • 15-minute sponsor presentations
  • One-minute fast pitches
  • Fireside Chat and Q&A with investor panel

There will also be guest speakers, including Linh Adelaida Johansson, Digital Asset & Business Development Manager at Flippa.com; Brent C.J. Britton, Founder and Chairman of CoreX Legal and Michael Budensiek of Michael B Coaching & Advising.

General attendance is free and offers connections with investors and entrepreneurs and includes lunch and networking opportunities. Other levels offered are a startup vendor table and five-minute investor pitch, and a sponsorship that includes a 15-minute presentation and four feature articles at VCFastPitch.com, among other perks.

SPC’s Dean of the College of Business, Emmanuel Hernandez-Agosto said that though everyone is invited, ten SPC students will have the opportunity to do a one-minute pitch at the end of the event, and others can experience how other startups and early-stage ventures structure their deals and pitches.

“The main benefit of the event is the opportunity to expose our students to pitch their business ideas to seasoned investors,” Hernandez-Agosto said. “This is an additional step in the growth ladder our students benefit from after participating in the College’s annual Business Plan Competition we host in the Spring Term.”
