George Graham, faithful servant of Jehovah dies

ST. PETERSBURG — Died before his time at the age of 91 on June 27, George E. Graham, Sr. was first and foremost a faithful servant of Jehovah God for 65 years. He was a loving husband, father and full-time pioneer.

Brother George, warmly referred to by many, was born on August 14, 1923, in Hamtramick, Mich. He graduated high school at the top of his class, and attended college but left early because he felt that it was not teaching him fast enough. He often said: “college was too slow.”

He joined the United States Army and served in WW II and Korea as a CORP Engineer. George quickly obtained the rank of first lieutenant, and right before being made captain he left the armed forces to become a Jehovah’s Witness.

While living in Detroit, he met and married the love of his life, Georgia Anna Binion on May 5, 1947.  George and Georgia moved with their family to St. Petersburg in 1973, where they spent four decades dedicating themselves to the Kingdom work. Georgia passed in January of this year.

He witnessed and conducted bible studies in the park when his health became too poor to go from door to door. George studied the bible with more than 135 people, many of whom became special pioneers, ministers, elders and ministerial servants. He also taught many to read.

Brother George was a very generous man giving of his time, talents and finances. He is survived by his brother, James Graham Sr., five children, 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He leaves a host of loving family members and his spiritual brothers and sisters behind to cherish his memory.

Memorial services will be held July 18 at 4 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located at 298 31st St., St. Petersburg.
