Program offers free training and courses

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act is a federal program that provides funding to aid individuals in becoming self-sufficient by providing them funding for short-term training and education, support services and job placement assistance.

ST. PETERSBURG — The partnership between CareerSource Pinellas and St. Petersburg College (SPC) just got stronger when CareerSource Pinellas recently approved up to $1.2 million toward training vouchers that would allow eligible Pinellas County residents aged 18 and older to attend SPC programs aligned with targeted occupations.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act is a federal program that provides funding to aid individuals in becoming self-sufficient by providing them funding for short-term training and education, as well as support services and job placement assistance.

“This program aligns perfectly with SPC’s mission to change the lives of individuals, their families and the entire community through education. It also reinforces our commitment to strengthening the Tampa Bay area’s workforce pipeline,” said Dr. Tonjua Williams, President of St. Petersburg College. “We are proud and honored to be a part of this partnership with CareerSource Pinellas.”

CareerSource Pinellas has aligned funding with more than 80 programs at SPC in the areas of:

  • Arts
  • Business
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Manufacturing and building arts
  • Health sciences and veterinary technology
  • Public safety, public policy and legal studies
  • Science
  • Social and behavioral science/human services
  • Technology
