“…God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).”
Every year, many of us make New Years’ resolutions that we do not keep. Often before the month of January is over, we have abandoned those resolutions to lose weight, stop smoking, find a new job, go back to school, start attending church, etc. After feeling discouraged, then we decide to wait for another significant time of year to have a fresh start over such as a birthday or anniversary. In 2016, instead of making a resolution, let’s set an intention.
Intentions answer the question what? It clarifies for us what the goal is so that we will know when we have reached it. Intentions make our desires clear and concise. They include benchmarks so that we are aware of when we hit the bulls eye and how far we have to go.
Intentions also answer the question why? They explain why we are doing what we are doing. God is not only concerned about what we do but the motives behind what we do. God is not only concerned about what we say but the reasons why we say what we say. Are you doing it just because someone else is doing it or are you doing it for your highest good?
Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4). God will bless our intentions and give us the desires of our hearts if we put God first and seek him. Seek first the Kingdom and God’s righteousness all these things will be added (Matthew 6:33). What is your intention for 2016?
