Voting is power!

The St. Petersburg Branch NAACP is serious about the upcoming primary and general elections! The branch’s major focus is on hosting candidate forums for the Pinellas County School Board race, State Senate and State House Seat District 70.The candidate forums are as follows:

• Pinellas County School Board:  Tuesday, June 21, at SPC Allstate Center in partnership with St. Petersburg College Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions. The forum will be moderated by Channel 10 New Anchor Reginald Roundtree, News Anchor from 7-8:30 p.m.

• Florida State Senate District 19: Tuesday, July 12 at Enoch Davis Center from 6-8 p.m.

• Florida State House District 70: Tuesday, July 26 at Enoch Davis Center from 6-8 p.m.

The branch has also been working tirelessly to convene a community based collaborative aimed at ensuring that our community understands the importance of all the elections occurring in August and November, and more importantly the zero tolerance attitude the community must embrace for registering to vote and then exercising that vote.  Caucuses will be held throughout 33705, 33711 and 33712 zip codes.

The collaborative, Voting Is Power (V.I.P.) is made up of faith-based organizations, Greek letter organizations and community-based organizations. V.I.P.’s goal is to not only register 2,500 unregistered voters, but to also to educate them on the importance of all the upcoming elections and the importance of registering to vote. The collaborative has nailed down its canvassing efforts for the following dates:

• Saturday June 25 from 9:30-1 p.m. Canvassers will meet at the Enoch Davis Center for canvassing occurring in 33705

• Saturday July 16, from 9:30-1 p.m. Canvassers will meet at the Childs Park Recreation Center for canvassing occurring in 33711

• Saturday July 23 from 9:30-1 p.m. Canvassers will meet at the Thomas “Jet” Jackson Recreation Center for canvassing occurring in 33712

If your organization or as an individual you would like to be a part of V.I.P., whose goal is to produce  record number voter registrations and GOTV efforts, please contact NAACP political action chairperson Erika Lopez at 727-410-2132!
