A memorial service celebrating the life of Catherine Mouton Holmes will be held at Bethel Community Baptist Church, at 2901 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg, on Saturday, March 25 at noon. The Rev. Dr. Manuel Sykes will serve as officiant.
Holmes passed away Feb. 1 at the Heartland Home Health Care Rehabilitative Center in Columbus, Ohio. A resident of St. Petersburg for 55 years, she opened her heart and her home to many children and families over the years.
Affectionately known to many as “Ma Holmes” or “Grandma,” she was a Christian woman, housewife and a self-employed home childcare worker. She will always be remembered for her dedication and faithfulness to her God, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Cass and Lucinda Mouton, husband Rev. Nathaniel Holmes, grandson Peyton Kyle Rolax and siblings Viola Mouton Singleton, Emma Lois Mouton, Robert Mouton, Mary Mouton Savoy, Susie Mouton LaSalle, Kenneth R. Mouton and Rev. Roland E. Mouton, Sr.
Loving and kind in all her ways, upright and just to the end of her days. Sincere and true in her heart and mind, beautiful memories she left behind to be cherished by her children: Nathaniel Ray Holmes, Naomi (Keith) Johnson, Patty Cloy, Billie Holmes, Sandra (Clifton) Ford and Emma (George) Banks. Her sister Geneva Laws, sisters-in-law Arrie Mae Holmes, Mary Mouton and Oletha Mouton, 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.
