Celebration of Afrofuturism

TALLAHASSEE — Florida A&M University (FAMU) will be celebrating AfroFuturism this Wed., Feb. 25 and Fri., Feb. 27 in honor of Black History Month.

The 7th Annual Spring Literary Forum will host the Black to the Future: A Celebration of Afrofuturism and Black Speculative Fiction will feature best-selling authors Tananarvie Due and Walter Mosley. Guest Speakers include William Hayashi, Cerece Rennie Murphy, Penelope Flynn, Milton Davis and Valjeanne Jeffers.

Tananarvie Due is expected to speak Wed., Feb. 25 at noon and Walter Mosley on Friday, Feb. 27 at 6p.m. Both events will be held in Lee Hall Auditorium and are free to the public.

This event is a part of FAMU’s month-long Black History celebration on campus presented by “Deep Roots.”

Asia Cain, a senior political science student from Apopka, Fla. is looking forward to the AfroFuturism events this week.

“I really love that our school is taking a part in celebrating our history and offering free events to the students. I’m excited to attend and take in all the knowledge and celebrate my people,” said Cain.

The departments of Academic Affairs, Department of English and Modern Languages, Lambda Iota Tau, The Literary Guild, the College of Social Sciences Arts, and Humanities, the Meek-Eaton Southeastern Black Archives and Student Government Association are also sponsoring the events.
