ST. PETERSBURG — When is a movie more than a film? When the purpose of the movie is to provide a fun family time in the neighborhood! Starting this Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. (movie begins at 7:22 p.m.) and for the next two Saturdays (Oct. 17 & 24), the Deuces will be presenting Movies on the Deuces Corridor!
Special thanks to SPC Midtown for the use of their parking lot to screen the film. Please bring your chairs and blankets to sit on. Movie attendance is free of charge!
Snacks will be available for a donation of $2 (hotdog, cookies or chips, drink). This isn’t a drive-in, it is a sit-in, cars won’t be allowed in the viewing area (no pets, please). We will be observing social distancing and mask-wearing required!
The Deuces Live, supported by a grant from Wells Fargo, has been hosting Movies at the Royal Theater for three years. This year they were so excited to have movie hosts – Cultured Books – who screened international children movies (coupled with corresponding international snacks), Thrive by Five and Stephanie Johnson, The Write Professor.
COVID-19 stopped Movies at the Royal in March of this year. Now, the community is excited to watch movies outside, socially distanced and masked-up!
With the 2020 census deadline extended to until Oct. 31, there will be people there asking everyone to please fill out the census if they haven’t already done so. Responses to the 2020 Census inform how more $675 billion is distributed to communities nationwide each year, meaning more hospitals and clinics in places that need them most.
There are several community initiatives encouraging individuals that are registered to make their voices heard in the voting booth. There may be a brief in-person ONE MINUTE commercial where candidates or their agents may encourage those in attendance to vote!
What’s showing?
Since the showing is outside, Mother Nature is going to determine if the event happens. In memoriam of the talented Chadwick Boseman, the Black Panther will be shown.
Black Panther is a 2018 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Written by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther alongside Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.
Watch T’Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country’s past.
