We had an incredibly successful and productive time at the parental engagement forum on Monday.
Despite the rain many parents fought through and were in attendance and I feel it was well worth it for them.
We are now working with the school board on Phase two, which will include compiling the information shared from the parents and will be implementing and putting in place committees and whatever necessary to ensure that your efforts will not go on deaf ears.
Dr. Karen Mapp did a superb job encapsulating her program in 30-45 minutes and I believe proved to be quite effective.
I personally want to thank the key players to include my buddy and friend and fellow clergy Pastor Martin Rainey for following God’s instructions and having the belief and faith to follow through with it till completion. I also want to thank Dr. Michael Greco and Dr. Valerie Brimm of the School Board for their tireless efforts to not only sit and listen but also to let us, PSFEC, Parent Support for Education Council, spearhead the community faith-based efforts.
I know some out there were naysayers and had and probably still have their reservations but we will continue to not only prove y’all wrong but we will make even more progress and ultimately make Satan regroup and go across on of the bridges with his mess.
I hope that in the future forums we get more participation from other community-based non-profits choose to come to one of our meetings and establish an alliance to better promote the fight for our kids.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there are others in the community and city that are interested and concerned about our kids’ future and well-being that are not just School board employees but also department heads. I was also pleased to see that they are not out of touch with reality as to the issues and obstacles facing our young parents and was open to mind criticism of the various experiences some of them encountered when they would visit.
We are gonna win this fight and with or without additional support from other businesses and leaders in the community and 2015 will prove to be a year of positive promotion and praise for the good things God has done.
A special shout out goes to my good friend and sister in Christ Sis. Rene Flowers and her fellow School Board members who also were in attendance and took time out of their hectic schedules to be with us the entire evening.
Next week it will be business as usual as I continue to establish relationships and create alliances with those committed to bringing about change for the better.
And of course, call them like I see them and as I’m led by the spirit of God.
