Help Me Grow hosting free, family fun event and developmental screenings

ST. PETERSBURG – The Children’s Home Society of Florida’s Help Me Grow Pinellas invites the community out to the Books, Balls and Blocks event on Wednesday, Oct. 18, and Oct. 19. The free, two-day event will bring families together and promote child development, literacy and empower parents and caregivers to support their child’s unique needs from the earliest ages and stages.

Research shows 90 percent of brain development occurs by age 5, including the executive-level functioning required for critical and strategic thinking later in life. For children experiencing developmental delays, it can be a daunting time for parents and caregivers.

With Help Me Grow Pinellas, a program managed by the Children’s Home Society of Florida and sponsored by the Children’s Forum, the State of Florida and the Division of Early Learning, local families have access to free assessments that can identify developmental delays and disabilities as well as tools and resources to help their child thrive – all at no cost to the families.

The event includes free, family-friendly activities, games, prizes, and developmental screening for children 0-5. Registration is open at chsfl.org/helpmegrow.
