Mind Your Own Business

BY DR. DORAL PULLEY, Today’s Church Tampa Bay

Scripture – “Study to be quiet, to do your own business, and to work with your own hands (I Thessalonians 4:11).”

Denial – I refuse to be distracted by what others are doing or not doing.

Affirmation – God’s purpose for my life has my full and complete attention.

You are not here by accident.  You are here for a purpose.  You are here to do God’s business on the earth. What that looks like for you is unique based on the gifts that God has given you. Therefore, it is imperative not to compare yourself to others.

When Jesus was questioned by his parents about where he was and what he was doing, his response was, “I must be about my Father’s business (Luke 2:41-52).” Joseph’s business was carpentry, so they knew that he was not talking about his natural father.  Jesus was talking about his clarion call to do to ministry, his heavenly Father’s business.

You are a part of God’s family and you have a part in the family business of changing lives and having a positive impact on the earth. You are a unique expression of the Divine and what you are called to be cannot be replicated and what you are called to do cannot be duplicated.

Reflection Question – What is your business plan for God’s work through you?  Think about your unique gifts, features, and talents.

Musical Activity: What song can be your theme song to keep you motivated as you go about the business that God assigned you to do?
