PINELLAS COUNTY — The Phyllis Wheatley Rise to Read Campaign (PWRTRC), in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas & West Pasco Counties, hosted a reading contest in recognition of literacy week.

Children living in St. Petersburg and south Pinellas County can compete for cash prizes for reading and provide proof of the number of books read between Jan. 23 and Feb. 28.

Cash prizes will be awarded in age groups to the child that reads the most books and can provide proof by submitting a summary of the books:

  • 5-8 years old $75
  • 9-11 years old $75
  • 12-15 years old $150
  • 16-18 years old $200

PWRTRC judges reserve the right to determine if the summary is adequate to verify that the child has read the book in its entirety. Contestants must certify in writing on each summary the date they began reading the book and the date they finished. Certifications not included will be disqualified.

Entries must be submitted by email to pwrtrc2021@gmail.com no later than 11:59 p.m. on March 10.
