ST. PETERSBURG — The St. Petersburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. celebrated a significant milestone as it welcomed 50 new members into its esteemed sisterhood. This event marked one of the largest new initiate lines of a D-9 Greek organization in the St. Pete area and highlighted the chapter’s commitment to mentoring and empowering new members.
The journey for these 50 women began with mentorship from experienced chapter members who guided and educated the new members on the rich history of Delta Sigma Theta, learning about the founders, historical milestones, and the esteemed charter members who paved the way for generations to come.
This process culminated in a captivating presentation at Boca Ciega High School, drawing a packed audience eager to witness this important milestone. The new members showcased their newfound knowledge and commitment to the values of Delta Sigma Theta through various performances and presentations, demonstrating their dedication to upholding the sorority’s legacy.
Before the presentation, a sisterhood luncheon was hosted at the Hilton Bayfront in downtown St. Pete, adding a touch of elegance and camaraderie to the occasion. The event was graced by the presence of Mayor Ken Welch, who took photos with the new members, members of the leadership team of the St. Petersburg Alumnae Chapter, vendors, and some family and friends. Mayor Welch also delivered heartfelt greetings during the program preceding the luncheon.
The highlight of the luncheon was the keynote address delivered by Joanell Lawson, National Co-Chair of Protocol and Traditions of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Lawson’s inspiring speech emphasized the significance of sisterhood, leadership, and service within the sorority, setting a tone of empowerment and purpose for the new members.
“The admittance of these 50 women into our Sisterhood is a momentous occasion,” remarked Gloria Flakes, president of the St. Petersburg Alumnae Chapter. “Our chapter is thrilled to welcome these talented and driven individuals who embody the principles of scholarship, sisterhood, and service at the heart of Delta Sigma Theta.”
The ceremony not only celebrated the new members but also underscored the ongoing commitment of the St. Petersburg Alumnae Chapter to fostering leadership and excellence within the community.
