Who you looking at?

Since I was knee high to a grasshopper, I was taught in church that your eyes are the windows to your soul. I grew up thinking my eyes were just like the windows at my house; they allow me to see outside of myself and look into another person’s eyes and see what they’re really all about – NOT! Because there isn’t a scripture in the Bible that says that, it’s an illustration folks–but it worked for me as a child.

Since a lot of people think that if you couldn’t look them in their eyes when they are talking to you, you’re dishonest. So I vacantly gazed with my eyes wide open back into their eyes because I knew I was not being dishonest. When you have 20/20 vision, you see clearly the way you should go in life even if you stumble along life’s way. God is able to keep you from falling; however, if you are blind, you can’t see anything and must rely on assistance of some sorts to help you maneuver your way through life. Even as you get older, your eyesight becomes dimmer and dimmer until they shut down for good.  Hopefully by then you would be just like Jesus as you will see Him face to face. [1 Corinthians 13:12]

In the scriptures, the eye is often used as a symbol of a person’s ability to receive the light of God. Symbolically, a person’s eye also shows their spiritual condition and understanding of the things of God. The good Lord made the hearing ear and the seeing eye. [Proverbs 20:12] The foolish have eyes and see not. [Jeremiah 5:21; Mark 8:18] If you receive the finished work of Jesus on the cross, the eyes of your understanding will be enlightened. [Ephesians 1:17–18]

So, I ask you once again, who you looking at? Is it man or the government to give you your boots, the bootstrap, put them on you and then pull you up? Prop you up and show you which path to take? God have taught us it is He who would give us witty inventions and give us the power to make wealth [James 4:10; 1 Samuel 2:7; Deuteronomy 8:17-18].

Nevertheless, when your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you becomes darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light. [Luke 11:33-36] So, who are you looking at?

Are you like the nosey women in the neighborhood who gossips about her neighbor not washing her white bed sheets very clean because when she peered out through her window at them hanging on the clothesline next door, they all were always dingy? One day, before looking out her window at her neighbor’s bed linens hanging on the clothesline, her eyeglasses fell into the bowl of soup she was preparing to eat.

She cleaned them, put them on and was amazed. She phoned the other neighbors and reported to them that her neighbor had finally learned how to wash her white sheets clean!  Woe unto those who are wise in their own eyes as Satan have blinded their eyes. [Isaiah 5:21]

Do you see what I see? Do you hear what I hear? The light of your body is the eye. [Matt. 6:22; Luke 11:34] If not, stand at the points that cross in your life, renew your mind, examine yourself and see which path you are on, ask for the best path, the one our ancestors took and walk therein. [Jeremiah 6:16]

Only then will you see or comprehend clearly that the commandments of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. [Psalms 19:8] You too will be blessed because your eyes can now see/comprehend God as LORD now and later. [Matthew 13:16] If your eye be single, your whole bodies shall be filled with light. You will soon realize that “life” will get tired of trying to discourage you! And you’ll feel like going on!
