Greenhouse hosts African American Cooperatives workshop Jan. 31

 

St. Petersburg — The St. Petersburg Greenhouse is offering a free workshop, African American Cooperatives: History and Culture on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Greenhouse, 440 Second Ave. N, St. Petersburg. This will be a great introductory lead-in event to African American History month, coming in February.

Free and open to the public, the workshop is presented by the nonprofit, Florida CEED (Cooperative Empowered Economic Development Corp.) Join us for an engaging presentation on how this “collaborative economic model” was utilized by African Americans to overcome an oppressive social economic hurdle, decade by decade.

 Workshop highlights include:

• Examination of alternative cooperative economics

• Examination of the cooperative business model

• Use of these business models to achieve socioeconomic survival

Featured speakers include Judith Turner, Executive Director of Florida CEED Corp., and Sheena Qualles, CEO of Kidonomics LLC. During this introduction, they will examine how collaborative economics or alternative cooperative economics and the cooperative business model were used as a strategy to achieve socioeconomic survival within an underserved community.
