ST. PETERSBURG – On Nov. 23, the St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA) received approval from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for its redevelopment proposal of Jordan Park.
The proposal involves the demolition of 31 vacant units (known as the Historic Village), the construction of a new 60-unit midrise building for seniors, and the substantial rehabilitation of 206 family units. The redevelopment will result in an additional 29 affordable housing units on the property. With the demolition of the Historic Village, there will be no remaining original structure.
As part of the approved redevelopment proposal, Jordan Park will no longer operate as public housing but will be repositioned as a 100 percent project-based voucher (PBV) property. The units will be available to those households earning 60 percent or below the Area Median Income (AMI).
“This latest approval from HUD takes us one step closer to realizing the goal that many of us in the St. Pete community have worked towards for so long – the revitalization of Jordan Park and the significant improvement of the quality of life for our residents,” said Commissioner James Dates, chairman of the SPHA Board of Commissioners.
“I would like to express gratitude for the efforts of HUD’s Special Applications Center and Miami Field office in helping us arrive at this pivotal point in the redevelopment process. I am definitely looking forward to the groundbreaking, which we anticipate will take place in the first part of the new year and will signify a new beginning for Jordan Park,” said SPHA President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Lundy.
This approval marks another major milestone in the Jordan Park Redevelopment Project, which will begin Phase 1 rehabilitation work in December. Phase 1 includes the construction of the senior midrise and renovations on 97 of the 206 family-style units, community center, and management office.
SPHA anticipates the completion of Phase 1 in August 2022, after which Phase 2, comprising of renovation of the remaining family units, will immediately begin.
