ST. PETERSBURG — Two! Four! Six! Eight! We sure appreciate all of the families that participated in the eighth annual James Weldon Johnson Community Library Spelling Bee!
The Friends of Johnson Library hold a series of Bees every summer in partnership with the library staff. In addition to the Spelling Bee, there will be a Math Bee July 12 and a Geography Bee July 28.
Students competed in three categories: first and second grade, third and fourth grade and fifth and sixth grade. First place winners were recognized with trophies, and gift cards were awarded to winners and runners-up in all age groups.
Collaboration expanded this year to include Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity returning for the second year. Both organizations were instrumental with prize contributions and co-facilitation.
