ST. PETERSBURG — Ten-year-old Johanna Dennis received the Sunshine Ambassador Award from the City of St. Petersburg for her academic excellence and contribution to the betterment of the community.

Council Chair Deborah Figgs-Sanders said Dr. Monique Thompson, founder of Zero Debt College Project, informed the city that Ms. Johanna received the White House Presidential Service Award for a service project she initiated last summer.

The Admiral Farragut student spent her summer collecting books to donate to children at CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse), Pinellas County’s official domestic violence support agency and shelter.

“I want to say that you are a powerhouse of service all within yourself,” said Figgs-Sanders. “It is encouraging to see young ambassadors like Johanna, who at such a young age, are actively engaged in activities that contribute to the betterment of our community and the City of St. Petersburg.”

Congratulations from The Weekly Challenger. Keep up the good work, Ms. Johanna!
