Pinellas County Urban League’s Equal Opportunity Day Gala Oct. 4

ST. PETERSBURG — The Pinellas County Urban League (PCUL) will honor two key county government officials when it holds its 42nd Anniversary Equal Opportunity Day Gala at the beautiful Tradewinds Island Grand Resort on St. Pete Beach this Friday, Oct. 4. This year’s celebration begins at 7:30 p.m.

At the Gala, PCUL will recognize and highlight two important leaders in our community who have championed their mission of Empowering Communities and Changing Lives.  Honorees for this year include Dr. Cynthia Johnson, Pinellas County’s Director of the Office of Small Business Development and Supplier Diversity and Kenneth T. Welch, Pinellas County Commissioner.

The theme for this year’s gala is “Yet, Still We R.I.S.E (Reach, Invest, Serve, Empower).”  PCUL provides services in the areas of youth education, crime prevention, employment, wellness services, weatherization and home energy assistance, as well as helping seniors 55 and older secure sustaining jobs in Marion, Hernando, Sumter, Lake, Seminole and Pasco counties.

The gala, the League’s major fundraising event, will offer an exciting evening of awards for outstanding community and public investment, live entertainment, a VIP reception, and a silent auction, along with dinner and dancing.

Honorary chair for the event is Linda Marcelli, president of Lucky’s Real Tomatoes and board chair for PCUL.  Live entertainment will be provided by Kiashi Telfort.

Individual tickets are $175 and tables of 10 are $1,500 and may be purchased at www.pcul.org.  A private VIP reception will be held at 6:30 p.m., doors will open at 7p.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 p.m.
