TAMPA – Tuesday, Nov. 26, State Senator Darryl Rouson, District 19 (D), announced the endorsement of the Florida Education Association (FEA) and their president Fedrick C. Ingram for his candidacy for reelection to the Florida Senate in 2020.
“Senator Darryl Rouson knows firsthand the value and challenges our public-school teachers face,” stated FEA President Ingram.
Ingram said since Rouson comes from a family of educators, his mother being a public-school teacher for more than 35 years, it has made him a warrior for teachers.
“Darryl valiantly fought on the Constitution Revision Commission to keep bad amendments from making the ballot. As a senator, Darryl has stood on the frontline to stop bad public policy on education and supports public education 100 percent,” said Ingram.
Rouson responded, saying, “My mother was a public-school teacher, my father, a public school community college administrator. I lived public education and know it is the silver bullet for our state and community.”
The senator said he was humbled and honored to receive the endorsement of the FEA and Ingram, and that he will continue to champion educators’ issues in the Florida Senate.
Senate District 19 is comprised of parts of Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties and is one of the most diverse districts in the Florida Senate. Rouson has represented District 19 since 2016 and before that served eight and half years in the Florida House, representing Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas and Sarasota Counties.
Senator Rouson also served on the Taxation Budget Review Commission and the Constitutional Review Commission. When not hard at work for the people of Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties, he enjoys bike riding with his wife Angela and fishing with his children and grandchildren.
