St. Petersburg Midtown Rotary celebrates the life of one of its founders with a scholarship

Linda Marcelli presented Maximo Elementary teacher Bobby Coston, Jr. with the Midtown Rotary Rev. Watson L. Haynes II Memorial Scholarship.

ST. PETERSBURG – The St Petersburg Midtown Rotary honored the life of one of its founding members, Rev. Watson L. Haynes II, with a scholarship to recognize an outstanding student and teacher in our community.

Rev. Haynes, a community and civil rights leader, died on Aug. 20, 2022. He was a longtime Pinellas County Urban League president and CEO and spent his life addressing generational poverty and empowering young people. He was also an active Rotarian who was always present at the Midtown Rotary Club meetings. 

We congratulate Gibbs High School student Livia Zeigler and Maximo Elementary teacher Bobby Coston, Jr. for receiving this year’s Midtown Rotary Rev. Watson L. Haynes II Memorial Scholarship.
