Storm Squad community appreciation dinner Dec. 6 at Enoch Davis

On Oct. 14, the Initiative on Coastal Adaptation and Resilience members hosted a town hall at Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.

ST. PETERSBURG — Through the Storm Squad initiative, two town halls have been held this year to talk with residents in south St. Petersburg about disasters and the challenges that make it difficult to prepare for disasters and cope with the aftermath.

This has helped lay the groundwork for the Storm Squad Ambassador program, which will launch on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Storm Squad community appreciation dinner.

Everyone in the community is invited to this dinner, which will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Enoch D. Davis Center, 1111 18th Ave. S in St. Petersburg. Admission is free, and there will be free drawings. The first 20 attendees will receive a $15 Publix gift card.

At the dinner, you can hear about the opportunity to become one of the first 14 Storm Squad Ambassadors, with teams beginning activities in January 2024. Learn about the training, equipment and support the Ambassadors will receive and the plans to continue building the teams.

The Storm Squad initiative focuses on the neighborhoods of Bartlett Park, Harbordale, Childs Park, Jordan Park, Campbell Park, Palmetto Park and Lake Maggiore Shores.

There will also be an introduction to the Special Recognition Prize: The attendee of the Dec. 6 dinner who brings the most friends and neighbors to the community event in February will receive $100.

The dinner is hosted by the Coastal Adaptation and Resilience (iCAR) out of USFSP, with support from community members and social service providers.
