Dear Reader: A Prayer for Haiti and a Word to Comfort Those Who Have Been Broken

Dear Reader,

I’m not sure how my words will find you when you read them, but I pray that they will bring you hope, perspective, and the inspiration to see beyond that which is broken.

The earth often quakes and leaves a path of destruction behind it. Aftershocks make the work of recovery challenging, and the process to rebuild cannot begin until that which is broken has been removed.

I would like to take a few moments this week, dear reader, to pray for the people of Haiti, and I invite you to stand in agreement on their behalf with me.

“Lord, we pray that the lost will be found and that the missing will be accounted for. For we, too, know what it feels like to lose something or someone that you love. We ask that You would bring comfort to the broken and draw near to those who are crushed in spirit, for some have lost homes and many have become displaced due to the circumstances of the earthquake. We trust now in Your ability to be their refuge and place of safety during these times of trouble. We come now on behalf of the people of Haiti in prayer, and we stand in agreement with one another for their healing, provisions, and need for restoration.

Lord, bring them comfort, and allow Your reassurance to give them peace; for it is You, and You alone, who can supply all of their needs, according to Your riches in glory. We ask these things now on behalf of the people of Haiti, through the powerful and wonderful Name of Jesus, Amen!”

My dear reader, perhaps there was a personal circumstance that left you broken and in need of repair. It is my prayer that you will gain the strength to rebuild and that wholeness will be the beginning of your next chapter. I want you to know that you are not alone, and it is my prayer that this column will make you feel as though you have a place to belong and somewhere to call home.
